Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May. Formerly known as Decoration Day, it commemorates U.S. men and women who died while in the military service.
First enacted to honor Union soldiers of the American Civil War (it is celebrated near the day of reunification after the Civil War), it was expanded after World War I.
National Memorial Day ConcertConcert Date and Time: Sunday, May 29, 2016, 8 p.m. Gates open at 5 p.m.
Location: West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol, First St. NW, Washington, DC. Access to the concert is located at the southwest corner of the Capitol grounds. The best way to get to the Capitol is to take the Metro. The closest stations include Capitol South, Federal Center SW and Union Station.
The Memorial Day Concert will feature:
- poignant stories of veterans from different eras severely injured in war and living with life-altering disabilities
- Military groups include the U.S. Navy Band Sea Chanters, The U.S. Air Force Singing Sergeants, the U.S. Army Herald Trumpets, the U.S. Army Chorus and the Soldier's Chorus of the U.S. Army Field Band.
